My dear grandfather Malte, 82

Yesterday, my dear (maternal) grandfather Malte turned 82. Unfortunately I couldn’t attend his birthday party, but I went there today (alone, because poor M is still struggling with his cold…) to give him a huge congratulations hug.

It was so nice to spend some time alone with him and my grandmother Ingegerd, who served some delicious ’sandwich layer-cake’ (smörgÃ¥stÃ¥rta) and orange-cake with coffee.

Then we just sat and talked and I started asking them about the time when they were young and about their parents etc. After a moment I had to ask for a pen and paper so that I could take notes. It was so interesting and I found out so many interesting stories about my family that I now have decided to spend time doing genealogy.

This evening I was googling the maiden name of my grandmother’s grandmother, which was Darell, and found information even from the 18th century. Amazing… I am so excited! I am now able to tell them things about their past that they themselves have no idea about.

My grandmother also showed me some old pictures, and I did not know that she had so much history in pictures. I really hope to be able to spend some time with them going through it all, scan them and be sure to add names to all those faces from the past.

I also found this picture from when I was 5(-ish?), sitting in my grandfathers lap, with his mother Laura on the right. Laura passed away a few years back, at the age of 98 (I think):

me, grandfather Malte and his mother Laura

I have many nice memories from my childhood, spending a lot of time at my grandparents’ place, a former farm in Bjuv in an area called Tibbarp.

Time will tell things about time passed.
